NSW RAPAC

As part of our focus for ongoing Aviation Safety in Australia, we are part of the NSW CASA RAPAC* Committee
(*Regional Airspace and Procedures Advisory Committee)

We act as advocates for the wider Recreational, Sport and General Aviation and also for specific Aviation issues in the Sydney Basin, where we manage The Oaks Airport.

Current Issue - January 2012:

In late December 2011, whilst RAPAC was in Christmas recess, we received an email from CASA's Office of Airspace Regulation, outlining a proposed Danger Zone for Parachutiing Operations that take place at Wollongong. The 'Jump Planes' fly our of Albion Park Airport, just to the South.

As the matter is of wide interest to the Recreational, Sport and General Aviation Flying Community, we requested the matter be put on hold until the first RAPAC meeting for 2012, to be held on the 9th Februrary 2012. This was granted.

Here is the main part of the email from CASA AOR:

"The OAR has received a proposal to establish a permanent danger area surrounding the Wollongong parachute drop zone, located abeam Flagstaff Point Wollongong NSW at S34 24.6 E150 54.0. The intended purpose of the danger area is to highlight the activity to non-participant aircraft in a similar fashion as is used in the Wilton NSW area, by alerting transiting aircraft.

The proposed area is as follows:

Danger Area D402
To contain parachuting operations at S34 24.6 E150 54.0 (Flagstaff Point)
Lateral limits: between Woonona Beach and Pt. Kembla, and the escarpment (western boundary) and coastline (eastern boundary)

Vertical limits: SFC - base of CTA
Activity time: HJ
A chart illustrating the proposed dimensions is attached".

We present the following proposals, in the order received.
(Note: we have received these in differing formats and converted the first 2 into PDF format. Last version was received as PDF)
